In addition, TEN vessels have received awards and laudatory letters from independent bodies recognizing the Company's efforts to comply--and even anticipate--developments in quality operation. By promoting an active safety culture among company personnel, both in-house and on-board, TEN and its Technical Manager (TST) are committed to not only providing quality service to their clients, but also to ensuring consistent protection of the environment. Through a comprehensive system of continuous training exercises and seminars, they constantly ensure that a proactive, preventive mentality prevail throughout the enterprise. In this framework TST also sponsors major training establishments for seafarers in the Greek island of Chios and in the Philippines. Many graduates of these schools join the crews of TEN and TST vessels upon graduation, thus ensuring continuity and compatibility within the company. ISM / ISO Compliance Through its Technical Manager (TST), all TEN vessels received accreditation on ISM, ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 compliance. In fact, TST-as Founding Member of HELMEPA-was one of the first shipping companies in Greece to voluntarily comply with the requirements of the International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention (ISM Code) already in August 1997, well before the ISM Code went officially into effect on July 1, 1998.Recent Awards & Recognitions AMVER is a worldwide voluntary vessel reporting system operated by the U.S. Coast Guard to promote safety of life and property at sea. Its mission is to quickly provide to search and rescue authorities, on demand, accurate information on the positions and characteristics of vessels near a reported distress. Each year, Lloyds of London Press underwrites the 'International Rescue at Sea Awards' to recognize any AMVER participating ships involved in the year's most significant rescues. Various TEN vessels have been recognized by AMVER since 1994, the Company's first full year of operation. In November 1998, four of the Company's vessels were honored with AMVER awards for 1997: M/T Bregen, M/T Hesnes, M/T Pella and M/T Vergina II. In October 1999, six of the Company's vessels were honored with AMVER awards for 1998: M/T Athens 2004, M/T Bregen, M/T Hesnes, M/T Maria Tsakos, M/T Toula and M/T Victory III. a safe and healthy working environment, free from unauthorised use of
drugs and alcohol. As a condition of continued employment all shipboard personnel are required to submit to drug and alcohol testing. Refusal to consent to the testing, falsification of a test or positive test results will result in the termination of employment. All shore based and shipboard personnel of TSAKOS SHIPPING & TRADING S.A. are strictly required to adhere to this POLICY by fully complying with the Company's procedures and all applicable national and international regulations. |
